We arrived at The Charles after driving for 3 hours in snow-rain-high winds and cold temperatures. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Anna at the reception desk. All the necessary check-in paperwork completed with the greatest of ease as well as informative conversation of services available at the inn. We were then escorted to our room and when entering the room it was as the photograph in the web site had shown it. We were travelling the Easter weekend and in our room the staff had hidden chocolate eggs throughout the room - what a great idea! Our room had access to a balcony and the views were intoxicating - we could see the river and the the shore line of New York state - as well the entrance to Lake Ontario and the golf course which almost surrounded the inn! That evening we had made reservations to eat at a pub that was within walking distance from the inn. After dinner we walked back to the inn and went to the bar lounge located within the inn - had a warm seat by the warming fire and Alan the server was able to make a hot blueberry tea for us to linger over in the relaxing atmosphere of the cozy lounge. The next morning we decided to dine in the inn's period dinning room - the menu choices were varied - my wife had the traditional breakfast and I chose the crab benedict - both were excellently prepared and presented - portions were on the large size - so be prepared not to require a heavy lunch later in the day! That evening we had dinner arrangements at another restaurant - but returned afterwards to the same seats by the fire for a nightcap. Next morning we again dined at The Charles - my wife and I both had classic French toast - and again portions were generous and the meal was delicious. After our meal Anna spent some time discussing the history of the house and it's owners - she even found some pictures of the house at various time periods. That evening we again dined out however we returned yet again for and evening night cap in the cozy lounge. Overall the staff we very accommodating above what was expected - everyone spent time with us discussing everything from the inn to where they would go while visiting the area - even gave some reviews of places we intended to visit. We were so impressed with everything at The Charles - that we intend to book at least two more stays this year! What was presented on their website - was what we experience - the staff and inn are amazing .
